State police, anthropologist to exhume remains, investigate cold case homicides

The State Police has teamed with a forensic anthropologist from the University of South Florida to investigate cold-case homicides across the state. To identify victims and help loved ones find closure, forensic anthropologist Erin Kimmerle has recently worked with state police on five cold case investigations in Carbon, Lebanon, Luzerne, Monroe and York Counties.

Plymouth borough council voted 5-0 on Tuesday to approve an ordinance that removes Plymouth from the agreement, first ratified in 1974 by Plymouth, Larksville, Edwardsville, Courtdale and Plymouth Township.

A hole opened up in the deck of the bridge in the back mountain Thursday morning, causing several cars to blow tires. The bridge built in 1963 shows the kind of wear and tear seen on older bridges, and when a hole popped open on the deck at the start of the morning commute in Courtdale, repair crews blocked one of Route 309's southbound lanes.

Teens accused of shooting out windows get ARD

Three teens accused of shooting out vehicle windows with a slingshot were placed into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for two years on Thursday. Twin brothers Kenneth and Kevin Yarasavich of Larksville, as well as Nicholas Elko of Courtdale, all 19, were ordered into the program by Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III.

Grant will improve flood protection in Courtdale

Flood prevention efforts in Courtdale have been given a $1.785 million boost through a Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority grant. The grant will be used to install almost four miles of grassed swales, 2,500 feet of storm sewer pipe and make other improvements in order to eliminate major flooding and road washouts that occur during heavy rains.

2 adults, 18 cats displaced by Trucksville blaze

A fierce fire displaced two people and more than a dozen cats from their Kingston Township home on Friday night. The fire was reported at 6:30 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of Cliffside Avenue in Trucksville, according to a Luzerne County emergency dispatcher.
